Desktop Call Recorder Manual

Getting Started

If you haven't installed Desktop Call Recorder yet, start with the installation guide.

Settings open from the main window; every change saves instantly — there is no Save button.

General Settings

Recordings Folder

Default: %APPDATA%\Desktop call recorder\Recordings\Desktop call recordings

The folder where all recordings are saved. Press Change… to pick any location on your computer.

Auto Recording

Starts recording automatically when a call is detected on any supported platform. No manual action needed — the application monitors for active calls and begins recording straight away. On by default.

Web Browser Recording

Captures calls in Chrome, Edge and other browsers — Google Meet, Microsoft Teams (web), Discord and similar browser-based calling services. On by default.

Auto Launch

Starts Desktop Call Recorder automatically with Windows. Useful if you want the recorder running in the background at all times. On by default for new installs.

Start Minimized

Launches to the system tray without opening the main window.

Add Call Information to Filename

Includes call details in the filename — the app and, where available, the contact. Makes recordings easy to identify without opening them.

Audio Settings

These settings control the quality and size of the recorded MP3 files. The defaults are well suited to speech and call recording in most cases.

Sample Rate

Available options: 16000 Hz (default), 44100 Hz

16000 Hz works well for voice calls and keeps file sizes small. 44100 Hz offers higher fidelity but is rarely necessary for speech.

Bit Rate

Available options: 32, 64 (default), 96, 128 kbit/s

Controls MP3 compression. Higher bit rates improve quality but increase file size.

Always Stereo

Recordings are always stereo: your voice on the left channel, the contact on the right. Keeping the speakers on separate channels is what makes per-speaker transcription possible — and lets you isolate one side in any media player.

Echo Cancellation

Removes echo and feedback when recording through built-in speakers or an open microphone. Off by default; not recommended when you use a headset or headphones.

Microphone Audio Gain

Boosts input levels to keep voices at a consistent volume across recordings. Helpful with quiet microphones or when speakers are further from the mic. Off by default; same headset caveat as above.

Stealth Mode (Pro Subscription Required)

Stealth mode hides the recorder completely — no windows, no notifications, no system tray icon. There's no visible indication that recording is active.

Enabling it opens a confirmation dialog where you can set an optional password to protect access to the recorder interface.

Hotkey: Press Ctrl + Win + Alt + D to bring up the recorder interface while in stealth mode.

Notification Settings

Start of Recording Alert

Shows a notification when a recording starts. On by default.

End of Recording Alert

Shows a notification when a recording is saved. On by default.

Transcription Settings

Transcription has its own settings tab — choosing and downloading the AI model, language, and automatic transcription are covered in the transcription manual.
